Are Wind Load Labels Required on Residential Garage Doors?

The 2021 International Residential Code introduced a new requirement for garage door labeling. So, is a wind load rating – along with a label – required on every residential door in the U.S.? What about commercial? Are these labels for “ordinary” doors or for wind-load-rated doors only? Is it for every jurisdiction or just coastal areas? Dave Monsour has been the Technical Director of DASMA since October 2021. DASMA is the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association, North America’s largest trade association for manufacturers of vehicular access doors and access systems of all types, including sectional garage doors, rolling doors, high-performance doors, door operators, and gate operators. Previously Dave worked in the industry for 28 years with Wayne Dalton and Overhead Door, where most recently he was Senior Manager of applications, with responsibility for product support nationwide and custom design for all door types. Dave lives with his wife and children in northeast Ohio.

Mark has been in engineering with Clopay for 33 years.  Mark holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an M.B.A. from Xavier University.  He is a licensed professional engineer in several states including Florida and Texas.
