Committee Participation

IDA leadership approved amendments to its bylaws, including a provision to allow IDA members to serve as a part of an IDA committee without the requirement of being a board member.

Education & Training

IDA continued to promote certification and accreditation through the Institute of Door Education and Accreditation (IDEA) to our dealer and technician members. In addition, we were able to create opportunities for in-person training and testing at EduCon events. This past year there were 70 attendees that participated in the trainings, with 66 being tested for certification. 

Florida Licensing Requirement Advocacy Efforts

IDA heard the voice of some of our members in Florida who were not happy with this change in licensing requirements and lobbied in the State of Florida to push the licensing requirement deadline for specialty contractors. As a result of IDA’s lobbying efforts, an extension has been granted with an effective date of July 1, 2024. Important changes from the bill include: Specialty Contractors; Revises date on which local government licensing of certain occupations expires; requires Construction Industry Licensing Board to establish certified specialty contractor categories for voluntary licensure; prohibits local governments from imposing new licensing requirements for specialty contractors; authorizes critical state concern county to offer license for certain job scopes; prohibits local government from requiring license as prerequisite to submit bid for public works projects.

Top 100 Door Dealers

The second annual IDA Top 100 Door Dealers was published in the IDA Magazine and recognizes dealers that have had substantial success in their business sales. The number of participating dealers continues to grow, and a valuable benchmarking report will be provided to companies that have participated this year.

Products Innovations Showcase & IDA Design Awards Competition

The 2023 Product Innovations Showcase & Awards and the IDA Design Awards Competition provided a platform for our manufacturers to display the top products.

Technician of the Year Award

The Technician of Year Award recognized technicians that excelled in service and were nominated to receive this award.

IDA Scholarship

The IDA Scholarship Foundation increased award amounts to this year’s recipients and awarded $50K in total scholarships to our deserving applicants.

2023 Spring & Fall EduCon

For the first time, this year IDA held two EduCon events. The education focused events featured dynamic sessions on business management topics as well as two-day training sessions with IDEA certification opportunities for technicians. The vibrant tradeshow allowed attendees to network with exhibitors who displayed their latest products. Our Spring EduCon set a record for an EduCon attendance with over 350 attendees.

Garage Door Safety Month & SuperTech Day

IDA continued promotion of Garage Door Safety Month to stress the importance of Garage Door safety, and SuperTech Day which recognizes the value of the technician workforce and celebrates the tireless work that they do.
