: Panel with FEMA Contractor moderated by Mike Fischer
April 20th, 8am-9:30pm
Ever since Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida in 1992, the door industry has been responding to the need to reduce damage to overhead doors from high wind events like tropical storms and hurricanes. FEMA, the insurance industry, and the engineering community have reviewed field observations and data from named storms in order to improve construction code requirements. The panel will talk about the FEMA MAT (Mitigation Assessment Team) program and how overhead doors have performed during recent storms, and the MAT recommendations for future improvements. The discussion will also include updates on the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) Research Center full-scale wind testing program. This session will provide a look at recent updates to the model codes, and how your business will be affected.
